A female student of West African Senior High School (WASS) met her untimely death when she was knocked down by a vehicle while crossing the road. This sad event occurred at around 3:15 pm on Thursday afternoon after school.
The Headmaster of WASS is said to have revealed that six of their students have been knocked by vehicles just this academic year.
This event caused the Adenta community here in Greater Accra and close to Madina to go wild. They lamented greatly over the failure of the government to complete footbridges across the new stretch of the road which was completed long ago. According to information gathered, over 190 people have lost their lives on this stretch of road. 118 people have lost their lives in just 2018
The residents at the scene reported that the student died on the spot after she was knocked down. This further sparked and gingered residents who had been planning to embark on a strike. The tragic incident occurred at a time residents have threatened to embark on a peaceful demonstration to draw the government’s attention to the situation. The Madina-Adenta road has been a death trap since its construction since many have lost their lives.
They therefore blocked the road and caused heavy traffic amid the burning of tyre on the road making it un-motor-able
The earlier government acted and ensured the contractor come back to the site to complete all the incomplete overhead walkways for pedestrians the better. The residents of Adenta have vowed to continue burning tyre and blocking the road until the government listens to them.
