Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly holds 2019 Independence Day Parade

The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly has held this year’s Independence Day celebration at the LA Bawaleshie School field to mark Ghana’s 62nd independence anniversary under the theme “Celebrating Peace and Unity”, The parade which commemorated 62 years of Ghana’s independence was also the first to be organized by the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly bearly a year after it was formed. However, 8 previous replica parades had taken place within the municipality until now an initiative of the Mempeasem E.P. School under the leadership of Mr. Emmanuel August and Mr. Wsidom Hammond.

Schools that participated in the parade include Dzorwulu Primary, Dzorwulu JHS, Dzorwulu Special School, Maamobi Prisons Basic, Bethany Methodist Basic, La Bawaleshie Presby Basic ‘1’ School, Abelenkpe 1 Primary and KG, Abelenkpe 2 Basic, University Staff Village JHS and Accra College of Education Demonstration Basic all drawn from the public basic schools in the municipality.
The Ayawaso Municipal Assembly version fo Ghana’s 62nd Independence Anniversary was is led by cadets drawn from ESPO Best Child school, La Bawaleshie Presby School (Host) and Bevy bevy bilingual school all in East Legon within the Newly create Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly.

Cadet Commander for the parade was  master Gideon Baffoe (JHS 2), whiles the RSM for the day was Miss Abigail Nartey (JHS3) both of ESPO best Child School. Whiles the private schools that graced the occasion were Grace preparatory school, Princess Diana School, Hope Givers Academy, Padmore School, Mempeasem E.P School, Everlasting Peace Academy, Bevy Bilingual School, Faith Presby School, Adventist preparatory school.
At the end of the keenly contested parade, Faith Presby School located in East Legon close to Miklin hotel were declared winners, Evangelical Presbyterian School also in Mempeasem in East Legon came second while Abelenkpe 2 Basic placed 3rd.

DZORWULU  SPECIAL  SCHOOL was not left out of the celebration and parade. The school was fully represented and drew endless thunderous applause from spectators as they took their turn to match to mark Ghana at 62. It is a School for the Intellectually  Disabled located within Dzorwulu Community along  Efua Sutherland  Street. It was established  in1970 to train Intellectual  Disabled  Children in society. The School currently has a population of 162 Students made up of 88 boys and 74 girls. The Headmistress of this very important school is Mrs. Veronicau  Sackey. The  School  has 18 teaching Staff  and 20 non-teaching staff

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Sandrah Owusu Ahinkora informed the gathering of an award for two pupils of the school Accra-Dubia-Accra travel experience. The MP for the electoral area Honorable Lydia Alhassan charged pupils to continue to work hard, she on her part donated a laptop to the office of the Circuit supervision of education to facilitate the work of the officer. The MP for the electoral area also donated books and mathematical sets to participating children from the various schools.

Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly 2019 Independence Day Parade also saw some excellent cultural performance from the University Staff Village Primary which drew applause from the audience present. All political parties were fully represented at the event as well as traditional authorities from La Bawaleshie and Mempeasem communities.

Delivering her speech after the parade, Hon Sandrah Owusu Ahinkora charged all to be peaceful as we unite to build this nation of ours, she used the opportunity to call on all political parties to be embrace peace just as the people of Dagbon. In her speech, the MCE said the Municipal Assembly has plans in place to ensure all public basic schools are fenced to provide security for teachers and learners and make the schools conducive for teaching and learning. She added that, there are efforts at ensuring the Municipal Assembly gets at least one government senior high school established within the municipality
